A MONTHLY VIRTUAL MEMORY LOSS CARERS SUPPORT GROUP

Our support group is for carers who are caring for someone with memory loss. No diagnosis needed and our group is made up of a mixture of carers, those who are new to their caring role and those who have been doing it for many years. Along the way, we will be inviting speakers, delivering movement and art workshops and also supporting one another through a good ol’ chin wag & a cuppa! This group is about you as a carer and what you would like to get from it, but also to meet other carers in a similar situation to yourselves. Due to COVID we are running this via ZOOM.

Group 1 - 3rd Thursday of every month 2pm - 3.30pm

Learn to Meditate Workshop - Wednesday 21st July - 1.30pm - via zoom
In our modern world the word Meditation is often used inaccurately. Some people use the word Meditate when they mean thinking or contemplating, whilst others use it to refer to daydreaming or fantasizing. Meditation is none of these.
Meditation is an ancient and precise technique for bringing the scattered, distracted, and anxious mind into balance enabling the mind to rest and develop stability. Meditation is a process and practice of understanding of how the minds work and teaches us how to recognise and work with a variety of mind states such as anxiety, depression, and agitation.
Meditation is not part of any religion, it is a Science, which means it follows defined processes and produces results that can be verified. Meditation is a Science of the Mind. This workshop will give you guidance of how to practise meditation in its true sense.

Lip Balm Making - Thursday 29th July -11am - 12noon, Monday 13th September – 2pm – 3pm - via zoom

Self-Care Workshop - Wednesday 28th July - 1.30pm - via zoom
The most important relationship we have is the relationship we have with ourselves. How we respond to ourselves and the internal narrative we have with ourselves can either support us or defeat us.
Self-care is about recognising the relationship we have with ourselves, changing the narrative or behaviour if necessary, and prioritising it. Self-care is looking after yourself in a special way, it is an act of kindness, it is intentional and needs effort to sustain it.
This workshop will explore what self-care means, challenges the idea of self-care = selfish and will provide a short, guided relaxation practice.

Self-Management for Arthritis with Arthritis Action - 1pm - Thursday 19th August - via zoom
Ruth, from the UK charity Arthritis Action, will join us to explore what self-management is and how it can help people living with or caring for people with arthritis.
Topics covered will include keeping active, mental wellbeing, and pain management.

Shared Reading Group – 1pm – 2pm - Alternate Wednesdays - via zoom
In a Shared Reading group, poems, articles and stories are read aloud and then we share our thoughts:
what we liked / didn’t like, what we’re reminded of, how a story or poem makes us feel...
The aim is to relax and enjoy the readings and conversations that follow. These groups are welcoming and informal and there is no pressure to participate in any particular way. You can read, listen, talk, ask questions or just observe.
Since 2017, the Shared Reading groups have taken place in different settings such as libraries, Derby College, supported housing and the Royal Derby Hospital.
The group will meet every other Wednesday 1-2pm starting 7th July until 29th September.
